View from Plane

Last month, on 13 February, around 4.30 pm, I was heading home to Miri on an Airasia flight from Kota Kinabalu. Sitting beside a window, I had a great time enjoying the panoramic vista beyond its square glass. Flotillas of white clouds drifted across the azure sky, their shadows forming dark pools on the sylvan ocean below. How I wished I could fly like a bird, being in oneness with the heaven of celestial glory . When I felt tired, I would fly down and alight on a branch in a tree, letting myself be shaded by its cool canopy.

How great it was to be temporarily away from work. I could concentrate on my hobby with like-minded people. A day before, on 12 February, I attended a writing workshop organized by Sabah Society. Many expatriates were present, and we wrote freely on a picture and read our writing to each other. Kota Kinabalu always beckons me. It is where I picked up creative writing and whenever I recall how I struggled in my first workshop, a smile of gratitude will cross my face. Without it, I would not have loved reading as much as now. To write well, one has to have an avid interest in books. The wisdom gained helps me to crystallize many inchoate thoughts . My skill is still Nascent, and I hope it will ripen and take flight over time.

In the last ten minutes of the flight, the plane gradually dropped in altitude and the land became clearer and sharper.  Partly rolling with hills, it was spliced by rivers that wound and looped. Stretches of lurid brown roads switchbacked up and down from one end to another, creating serpentine patterns similar to the rivers across the land. Houses could be seen dotting along the waterways, the sun glinting off their metal roofs. Human shapes were still indiscernible by naked eye. How small we were in the arms of nature!

Thank you, Lord, for enabling me to witness this majestic view safely.

Air Asia flies between Miri & KK? So nice. None from here - we are at the mercy of the cutthroat monopoly, MasWings. Tsk! Tsk!
