Choral Speaking Script
Good morning, everyone. We would
like to present you a choral speaking performance entitled, “The Beach of Our
Hearts”.
My friends, there is a beach
opposite our school, which we call ‘The Beach of Our Hearts’.
Whenever we feel lonely, we will take a stroll along its white sandy
shore,
And listen to the waves crashing upon
the shore.
Wherever we go, we leave a trail
of footprints behind us.
The gentle sea breeze swirls
around us, sending our hair flying in all different directions.
The air is redolent with the fresh
smell of brine, and we can almost taste the salt on our tongues.
The waves unfailingly wash up a
long mound of shells along the shore, so colourful and varied in size.
At the sight of an
extraordinarily large shell, we will pick it up and blow through it.
When we have a picnic, our joyous
laughter fills the air.
Skewered chicken wings sizzle
over crackling fire, emitting a mouth-watering aroma.
The seagulls join in our fun with
their long screeching sound.
In the evening, the sun sets the whole world on fire, washing it in a golden
glow.
However,
one day, the beach is sealed off
And you
can see surveyors, contractors, engineers , labourers and the like roaming
about the beach.
After
several weeks, cranes, bulldozers, excavators, forklifts and other heavy equipment
vehicles swarm the beach, digging and uprooting anything in their way.
Skeletons
of condominiums are erected and they are soon filled with bricks and plaster.
The beach
becomes dusty and dirty with industrial wastes.
The sea is
seriously contaminated
We can no
longer stroll along the seashore
and have
fun picnicking in the shade with our friends.
The beach
has totally been disfigured, and our hearts weep for it.
God, why
is all this happening?
Where is
the conscience of human hearts? Why
should our beach succumb to modernisation?
Let us
join hands to protect other beaches against the encroachment of progress.
In this
way, the beauty of beaches can persevere from one generation to another.
Let us
say a prayer for our beaches. May they continue to be the beaches of our
hearts.
Thank
you.
