Books I Have Read

I am a very slow reader. It normally takes me two to four weeks to finish a book.Hence, I only read an average of one book every month. The following are the books I have read from January to August:

January: E.M. Forster's 'A Passage To India'
February: Charles Dickens' 'The Great Expectations'
March: Jeffery Eugenides' 'Middlesex'
April: Robert Raymer's 'Lovers and Strangers Revisited'
May:Aung San Suu Kyi's 'Letters From Burma'
June :Doris Lessing's 'The Golden Notebook'
JuLy: Virginia Woolf's 'To The Lighthouse'
August: Wiliam P. Young's 'The Shack'

The Book I Am Reading Now: Thomas Hardy's 'The Mayor Of Casterbridge'

The number of books I have read is rather low. My aim is to read more books to improve my language. My preference is classic novels.

i think most importantly, u go at a pace you're comfortable with and that you're enjoying the experience :) I'm a slow reader too! hehe

Out of the books you've listed, which ones did you enjoy?

Bookaholic, I enjoyed The Shack and Great Expectations.

The Shack is full of succinct teachings on life.

and Great Expectations depicts the main character's thoughts and emotions very well.

After reading 'The Golden Notebook' and 'To The Lighthouse', I felt like growling. I did not know what the heck they are about!

Another Malaysian author is Tash Aw who have written two books, one is 'Map of the Invisible World'. I got the author's signature on this book when he was in Singapore. My daughter got it for me. Both him and my daughter was at Yale before.

The other book is The Harmony Silk Factory his first book. Both books are a good read indeed.

Have a nice day.

wow they are on the heavy side... no way to speed read this lot! i saw the golden notebook the day and remembered your non-recommendation and steered clear all right.

one thing i have learnt is to abandon a book halfway if it truly does not appeal/ i am irritated by the writing/ it makes no sense. there are enough other books out there :)

BTW folks, how you read any books by Paulo Coelho. 'The Alchemist' is among the best and it might help to improved your quality of life.

Take care.
