2nd Runner Up of Form One Essay Writing Competition

Write a story ending with “…Thank you teacher.”

The grades I got for my History were getting more and more unacceptable. Frustrated over my repeated failure, I wanted to stop caring about it. I could not stand seeing my friends improving in the subject while I just kept on getting worse. I knew I had to ask for help from someone.

I requested my parents to enrol me in a tuition class that my friends were attending. My parents accepted what I asked for and they registered me for the class. A few days later, I had my first lesson and met new friends. I had a great time and believed that I would improve in no time.

A few weeks later, I sat for a History quiz and my grade was better than those in the past. I was so happy and proud of myself. My History teacher and my parents praised me and I was so flattered.

Being too complacent, I slacked off in doing revision and reverted to my old lazy attitude. As a result, my grades started to deteriorate again. During my tuition class, I either slept or talked with my friends. I didn’t notice how much I had missed out.

One day, I was called into the school counsellor’s office. During the counselling session, the counsellor, Puan Aisyah asked if I had any problem because she had received many complaints about my declining grades especially my History lesson. I told her the truth and she accepted it. She told me that if I wanted to succeed in life, I should strive harder for excellence.

From that day onwards, I kept repeating the phrase “Strive for excellence!” in my mind.  When the final semester ended, I checked my grades and found that I got the highest marks in almost all my subjects. I got the 3rd place in class and my average score was high. Thanks to Puan Aisyah and her words of encouragement. I completed my form 1 with flying colours. All I can say now is thank you for being my educator, my friend and my supporter. Thank you for your guidance, teacher.
