Write a story beginning with the following sentence, “I love you mother…”

“I love you mother…” I whispered as a tear rolled down my cheek.  She gave me a faint smile and placed her trembling hand on my cheek.  She wiped away my tears with her thumb and mumbled, “I love you more, dear...” With that, her eyes rolled to the back of her head as the heart rate monitor showed that she was no longer alive.

I shut my eyes and held my head in my hands. I cried wildly, unrestrained, huge tears spilling down my face.  I wept so loud that I gasped convulsively.

I picked my head up and gathered all the strength I had left and brought myself to see her one last time.  Her eyes were closed as her face was pale and lifeless. She was so thin that I could even see her bones under her skin.

I could not take it anymore, I wanted to leave and lock myself in my house. I got out of the room and found a few familiar people standing in front of me.  I blinked back my tears as I realized that they were my brother and sister and a few cousins. Some of them even had flowers in their hands.

“How’s mum?” My brother asked with a hopeful smile.  The expression on his face shattered me. When I did not him answer him, he came to the realization that the worst had happened.

“No...” his eyes swelled with tears. “I’m sorry.” I said, bringing him into a tight hug.

The day finally came for my mother’s funeral.  My siblings and I were absolutely devastated.  We could not eat or sleep.  But my brother took the news the hardest. His appearance said it all.  His puffy eyes were bloodshot, and his face was pale and gaunt. He was tired though he denied it.

I zonked out when a family acquaintance gave a eulogy for my mother. Before I knew it, it was time to see her. She was lying peacefully in her coffin. I couldn’t even stand up. I stared at her frail body in the coffin and remembered everything we had done together.

“Goodbye, mother…” I said in an inaudible voice.
