Majlis Graduasi TIngkatan Lima 2014

The Form Five Graduation Ceremony of SMK St. Joseph was held at the Pavilion Hall in Park City Everly Hotel on 27 September 2014.  It was the second time the ceremony was held in this venue.

The hall was filled to the capacity, and all the would be graduates were dressed in black robes.  The golden stoles over their shoulders gave them a glowing, personage look.  Deans of various colleges were invited to grace the ceremony.

As usual, the ceremony began with the singing of the National Anthem.  After a morning prayer, the Principal, Mr Ng Meng Heong gave a speech. "The theme for this year's graduation is breakthrough," said the principal. "And I urge each and everyone of you to achieve a milestone for yourself and the school." He advised the students to give it their all in the forthcoming SPM examinations and challenged them to achieve a record high GPA of 4.5 for the school.

The next speech was given by Mr. Wendel Crocker, chairman of PTA.  He reminded the students to be thankful to their teachers for having educated them for five years.  "Without your teachers," he stressed. "You wouldn't have made such a big stride in your life."

The third speech was given by Datuk Lee Kim Shin, minister of State Infrastructure Development and Communications.  He urged the students to practise positive thinking as it is a key to success in life. "Avoid complaining non stop," he said. " It impedes constructive thinking and deprecates your self-image."

During the prize-giving ceremony, parents accompanied their children to receive awards.  Jessica Huong begged the most coveted Shell award.  She had been a top student and an active Red Crescent member since Form One. On the other hand, Tiffany Tijang won the Principal award, a recognition for the most loving and caring student at school.  Dick Kho and Vanessa's good academic performance won them the IBS award.

During the intervals, dances and singing were presented.  A modern dance performance elicited loud cheers from the audience.  The singing by Gregory thrilled and impressed everyone.  The handkerchief dance by the inclusive dance troupe was equally amazing.

The climax of the ceremony was the presentation of leaving certificates to all the students.  Like the award recipients, their pictures and bio-data were shown on a screen fabric through a projector.

At the end of the ceremony, all the students were taken down memory lane when slideshows on their  school life were presented. They laughed, smiled, squealed, grimaced and sobbed.

After the ceremony, everyone was treated to a high tea.  And a lot of group photographs were taken. The exchange of hugs filled the scene.
