“I
love you, mother,” said Cassandra, wiping her tears in front of her mother’s
grave.
Cassandra’s mother died in an eerie
accident. She was badly injured and had been in the hospital for a week,
struggling to live and battling for her life.
Cassandra was shocked to receive the news
from a witness. The minute Cassandra reached her mother’s ward, she burst in
tears. She couldn’t believe the woman who had been taking care of her for 13
years, who had been there for her when she needed help and advice, was now in a
coma and may not make it.
Cassandra was afraid that
she would lose her mother. After Cassandra’s father died, her mother was her
only parent. Cassandra prayed so hard every day. On the 7th day, the
doctor told Cassandra that he would make a last check up and try to save her
mother. Cassandra had high hopes in the doctor. She was not allowed to enter
the ward. The nurse on duty insisted that she wait at the waiting room.
Cassandra sat at the corner of the waiting
room. She was sad and worried. She saw a mother and a daughter smiling at her
at the other end. The mother and her daughter reminded Cassandra of all the
bittersweet memories she had had with her mother. She remembered that she had
once surprised her mother with flowers on mother’s day and her mother was so
touched that she cried. One by one, the sweetest to the most bitter memory came
upon her mind. Her tears fell like a torrent of rain.
After what seemed like an eternity the
nurse came to the waiting room and approached Cassandra. Cassandra’s heart was
beating so fast. She was afraid. The nurse gave Cassandra a warm hug and
Cassandra started crying. The nurse consoled her and took her to her mother’s
ward to see the doctor. The moment she opened the door, the nurses and a few
doctors looked at her. The first word she heard from a doctor was an apology.
Cassandra knew something was wrong and she started crying.
The doctor told her they didn’t manage to save
her mother. It had been the second day since her mother was buried and
Cassandra felt her mother’s loss. It gave her a very big impact. She was
depressed. She lost someone she had really loved but now Cassandra is slowly
letting go of her mother’s death. She knows she can’t change the fate. As a daughter,
she prays every day for her mother. She really loves her mother.
