PT3 Composition: Hurting Someone Unintentionally On A Rainy Day

The rain was falling in slanting skein, and the road was slick with water.  Holding an umbrella in one hand, I squelched all my way to school along the unpavemented muddy roadside. The rain pitter-pattered on my umbrella with monotonous sounds.

A bus roared past me and sent a spray of water in my direction.  I gasped and leapt backwards to avoid being splashed.  Carelessly, I bumped into a mackintosh-clad school mate and we fell in a heap. My umbrella flew away and landed in the middle of the road before being crushed by an oncoming car.

"Are you alright," I asked as I struggled up.
"No," groaned the boy. "I hurt my leg and can't get up."

Overwhelmed by guilt, I apologized profusely to the boy.  I took him by the hand and propped him up against my body. I put his arm over my shoulders and helped him to walk to school.  When we reached the school foyer, I informed a teacher about what had happened.  The teacher removed the injured boy's shoes and found his right foot swollen.  He contacted his father and in ten minutes, a bespectacled man came to take the boy home. Before they left, I apologized to the boy again.

"It's okay," said the boy, grinning. "It was an accident and I don't blame you."
"Thank you," I said. "Rest well and get well soon."

The guilt that had held me firmly in its grip was easing away.  I would be more careful next time.
